What is the Charter?
The Charter is a shared commitment to make public EV charging as easy, reliable, and transparent as paying for anything else. It’s a set of clear, actionable principles that remove friction from the charging experience – empowering drivers with clarity, confidence, and control.
How It Started
This initiative began with Paythru, drawing on independent research with over 200 EV drivers. With early backing from Visa and strategic input from REA and EVA England, the Charter was refined through a roundtable with charge point operators, payment experts, and mobility platforms. At a London launch event, nearly 50 businesses pledged their support — and momentum continues to grow.
What the Charter Covers
The five principles below guide our shared mission to improve the EV charging experience:

Paythru’s EV Payment Charter is supported by:
“The REA and EVA England are supporting the Paythru EV Payment Charter because it aims to transform the electric vehicle charging experience by setting a new industry standard for payment clarity, reliability, and transparency. Addressing common user frustrations, the Charter introduces consistent pricing displays, standardised payment methods, reduced transaction failures, and clearer pre-authorisation processes. Developed through industry collaboration and user research, it empowers EV drivers with a smoother, more informed charging journey.”
